ジェーニャのことを言及していた部分で気になった部分を二つほど。
We did some ice shows in Spain and France after the Games were over
and he said,
“Weir, you’re going to be the next ‘One,’
but you have to do quads!”
He was very supportive and nice to me.
He would watch when I skated, as would his coach Alexei Mishin
who would sit with my coach Priscilla Hill.
It felt like a rite of passage to me to be accepted by them.

なんかジェーニャのアマ引退をにおわす一文で
素直によろこべんなぁ。

彼によるジェーニャとサンデュの分析も興味深い。
Take the Sandhu-Plushenko example.
Sandhu was <b>born with an innate talent,
probably the most of anyone in the world</b>,
but he didn’t get the gift of competitive toughness.
Plushenko is a <b>very good skater,
maybe not the best raw natural talent in the world</b>,
but he was born a true competitor and fighter.
Most people have varying levels of both and are somewhere
in-between those two extreme examples.

なるほど、なかなか的確な分析だ。
が、激しくジェーニャファンの私としては
太字にした部分に多少のひっかかりを感じる。
彼にとって才能はサンデュ＞ジェーニャなのか。

他にも今回の五輪について
クワンのことや荒川さんについても言及してるが
仲良しのコーエンに対しても2度の転倒のわりには
技術点が高すぎ、と厳しい指摘が。
そしてジュベールについてのコメントに笑った。
同い年にして舌禍も共通してるな。

いつもながらジョニー君のインタヴューは
読んでるぶんには面白いんだけどねぇ。
自分の分析、自己批判はいいが、
他選手の分析をいちいちマスコミに口にするのは
いかがなものか。
批評は冴えてるけど、演技が冴えない最近の彼を見てると、
そう思わずにいられない。
